Rowing Sport Concussion Return To Play Protocol

$0.00

The Rowing Concussion Protocol is designed to guide the safe management and recovery of athletes in the sport of rowing following a head injury. While concussions are less common in rowing than in contact sports, they can still occur from equipment-related impacts, collisions, or falls—especially during on-water training or racing.

This protocol emphasizes early recognition of symptoms, including dizziness, confusion, headaches, and balance issues. At the first sign of a suspected concussion, the athlete should be immediately removed from activity for medical evaluation. A qualified healthcare professional will perform a comprehensive assessment to determine the severity of the injury.

Once a concussion is diagnosed, the rower follows a gradual, stepwise return-to-rowing protocol. This begins with cognitive and physical rest, followed by a progression from light aerobic activity to rowing-specific drills and finally a full return to training and competition. Athletes must be symptom-free at each stage before progressing to the next.

The Rowing Concussion Protocol prioritizes safety, recovery, and long-term neurological health. It provides coaches, athletic trainers, and healthcare providers with a clear framework to support athletes through the recovery process, ensuring a safe and confident return to the boat.
